Yes, Tennessee Williams wrote a holiday musical comedy! Trinket and Celeste are at sixes and sevens with each other, but by the time the bells of St. Louis Cathedral toll twelve on Christmas Eve, will they reconcile, or will they end up in Touro Infirmary with battle wounds? Complete with warped Christmas carols from a chorus of Quarter rats, this is Tennessee Williams in his holiday best! This hilarious production will feature an original score by New Orleans based composer Michael Gillette!

BALLOONACY

The Radical Buffoons will be presenting Balloonacy, a comedic play for the whole family, from December 22nd to December 30th. This production will be the first work from the company’s YOUNG AUDIENCES and has a limited-run scheduled during The New Orleans’ School System Holiday Break with day time performances. 60 min. The captivating and whimsical tale of a grumpy man vs a playful balloon.

OPENING WEEKEND

EVERYBODY at Southern Rep Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’ saucy adaptation of the 15th century morality play EVERYMAN follows our company of brave performers (cast each night by lottery) as they journey through life’s greatest mystery – the meaning of living.

Dames at Sea at the World War II Museum, BB’s Stage Door a tongue-in-cheek version of those flashy 1930s Busby Berkeley-style musicals in which the naive chorus girl arrives in New York on the bus, steps into a role on Broadway, and becomes a star. Running Oct 19-Nov 11.  $25-$65

LIFE AFTER DEATH and Unded Rock Opera. The Living Dead’ walk amongst us, and they are very unhappy. Society won’t accept them, the religious condemn their existence and they’re utterly ignored by cab drivers. In this cruel world, the recently deceased are faced with a unique choice: Stumble alone or unite and walk amongst us. Nov 7-10 at She Comes in Peace Salon. $10

FEAST presented by Polanco Jones Jr. An exhilarating, fully immersive, multi-sensory experience that celebrates Black culture and social customs through progressive exhibition design. The way we use food, hair, music, and dance to fellowship will be at the helm of FEAST’s interactive and performative intentions.

Backstage Bash: NOLA Project Fundraiser an exciting night of music, dance, theatre, food, and cocktails! Featuring the musical stylings of New Orleans big band The Essentials, this night is an opportunity for theatre makers and theatre supporters to get together. The Avenue Gallery. We start the month with New Orleans theatre and performing arts festival, the InFringe Fest, going on its 3rd year. The festival takes over the Marigny and the Bywater performing 55+ shows in over 12 venues! Performances include dramas, musicals, cabarets, comedy, puppet theatre, circus arts, and storytelling, plus a venue reserved just for family-friendly productions.

Avant-garde sideshow troupe The No Ring Circus premieres their second full-length production this November at The Fortress of Lushington.

PSYCHOPOMPS shepherds an audience of the recently deceased through a Dantean underworld in turmoil. The Psychopomps who have guided man for all eternity face obsolescence in the new age of mankind’s self-sufficiency, and denial of the spiritual realm. Using real-life sideshow and pain tolerance skills as a means to tell their story, the troupe fuses performance art with linear storytelling. NOLAnow Theatre is a brand new, woman run company in New Orleans. Their premiere production opens the 3rd weekend of November, a queer production of GRUESOME PLAYGROUND INJURIES.

Rajiv Joseph’s​ ​Gruesome Playground Injuries​​ is a raw and compelling​ ​exploration of human connection in the modern world. Over the course of 30 nonlinear years, lifelong friends Kayleen and Doug watch each other’s lives unfold and evolve through times of physical and emotional turmoil. After non-traditional casting, Kathleen and Doug’s relationship will be enriched as the artists explore the queerness in these characters.

Intramural Theater’s fall production of The Women in the Mangroves, an original play written and designed by Sarah VanDerMeer will premiere this November at the Fortress of Lushington. Directed by Bennett Kirschner, and featuring the talents of Chris Silva, Grace Kennedy, Grace Nix and Mack Guillory III, this beautiful and weird production is equal parts arts installation and play. Produced by the same company who brought you Cowboy Mouth, Form/Focus, and Chet’s Summer Vacation.
